7 LOW-COST WAYS TO KEEP EMPLOYEES HAPPY AND PRODUCTIVE

5 Surprising Habits of the World's Wealthiest BillionairesYou finally did it - you put together a stellar team of go-getters who work well together, are turning out great products, and delivering top-notch customer service. This all-star team was a long time in the making and you want to make sure they stick around. Hiring and training new employees is an expensive undertaking, in terms of both time and money. At this point in the game, the question is this: how do you keep your staff engaged and happy over the long-term?

While it's a common misconception that employees are only motivated by monetary rewards, many find equal satisfaction in other forms of compensation for their efforts. Management style and work environment wield considerable influence over a staff member's overall happiness and well-being in a workplace and, luckily, this is an area where you, as a business owner, can step up and give your employees what they need to thrive.

The Business Development Bank of Canada offers 7 ways that you can improve the level of happiness and productivity of your employees. Suggestions that made the list include:

  1. Recognize and appreciate
  2. Offer the opportunity to make a difference
  3. Target continuing education
  4. Offer flexible schedules
  5. Implement job rotation
  6. Small gestures go a long way
  7. Organize team activities

While everyone appreciates a pay raise or end-of-the-year bonus, money is not the only way you can make sure to keep the best talent on your team for the long-term. What strategies are you implementing in your business to retain good employees?

GIVE THE GIFT OF SUPPORT TO AT-RISK YOUTH THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Learn more about ACCESS Youth Services 3rd Annual Fundraising GalaACCESS Youth Outreach Services has years of experience providing youth aged 12-18 with free outreach and caseworker services by meeting them where they are. ACCESS can help these children now - with your help.

Too many youth are struggling with mental health issues and face a waiting period of 8+ months for basic support from traditional systems.

The caseworker model is simple - we provide flexible after-hours services so we can meet youth when and where they need to meet, and to assist them anyway possible. Based on our experience, street involved/at-risk youth are reluctant to access traditional services. They struggle with trust, acceptance and judgement. Many suffer from anxiety, depression, self harm, isolation, marginalization, and suicide rates have increased dramatically.  So we offer an alternative. In our one year pilot, we provided support to over 60 youth.

ACCESS does not receive any ongoing funding from any source and relies solely on grants, fundraisers, and donations to continue to offer these much-needed services. NALH supports the work that ACCESS does wholeheartedly and we would be grateful for any support you may be able to lend as an individual or a business. Let's join together to help ACCESS assist at-risk youth today, so they can have a better tomorrow.
